We asked Melissa a few questions about herself, her business, and how she uses MoonClerk.
What are your responsibilities at Makewell?
Jonathan and I are the two full-time designers at Makewell. We also have a network of teammates that we can bring in on an as-needed basis, including web developers, photographers, illustrators, additional designers, a videographer and copywriter.
How did you end up starting Makewell?
After working in agencies and then both freelancing on our own, we joined forces to offer more of a full-service to our clients. We found that our work almost always spanned outside of traditional graphic design, but potential clients didn’t always know that we could handle larger scale projects on our own. Forming Makewell allowed us to create a seamless experience for our clients across multi-discipline projects.
What have been some key factors in growing your business?
One of the main reasons we decided to form Makewell was to take on bigger, more involved projects. We like to think of ourselves as providing agency-quality work, but on a much more personal level, acute attention to detail and at a lower cost. In order to keep our costs low we are always aware of our overhead and that is why the model of our remote team works so well. We have a studio space where the two of us work and sometimes other members of our network will join us if we are working on a project together, but otherwise we operate in a pretty bare-bones sense as far as overhead which allows us to grow and scale up as needed for specific projects, but also keep the cost down for our clients.
What do you use MoonClerk for?
We’ve recently launched a web hosting and maintenance plan for our clients with WordPress websites. We use MoonClerk for recurring billing on those accounts. We also use it for specific payments from certain clients when they want to pay with a credit card.
Before MoonClerk, did you use another payment system?
Prior to MoonClerk we used Paypal occasionally, but weren’t particularly happy with their service, so we tried to avoid taking credit cards as much as possible. Now we gladly accept credit cards from our clients, making payment easier for them and much faster for us! I have also heard nightmare stories about Paypal withholding funds and in the end, you are allowing these systems to move around your money, so you want to be sure that you fully trust them.
What made you decide to use MoonClerk?
We love that MoonClerk uses Stripe and that was a big factor in our decision. The system is incredibly simple to use while also being customizable, which is important to us as designers!
What was your experience when switching and getting started with MoonClerk?
Super simple setup. We were up and running and accepting payments the first day!
What do you like about MoonClerk?
I like how easy to use it is and how customizable all of the forms are. I also appreciate how easy it is for our clients to use. No one has ever had an issue.
How has MoonClerk improved or helped your business?
We now have recurring payments running in the background and we are providing a completely new service that we wouldn’t have been able to offer without this capability! MoonClerk is allowing us to accept payments in our sleep, and who doesn’t want to be able to do that?
