Malorie Yagelski, CEO and co-founder of Mastery by Mal, talks with us about how MoonClerk played a part in helping grow her business over 16X in just 5 months, providing a way to accept payment plans from clients and automate the business.
Can you tell us a little about Mastery by Mal?
Mastery By Mal is the ultimate solution for every girl’s social marketing needs. We pride ourselves in organic Instagram courses to teach individuals all over the world effective, efficient, and affordable ways to increase their Instagram growth. Mastery By Mal provides these digital marketing courses at a very affordable cost, while being super effective, hands-on, and easy-to-understand. We plan to grow our course topics + bring in new authors to add more value! Mastery By Mal also has a podcast on the way!
What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
Our responsibilities, (myself and my co-founder, Logan Buehrer) include student outreach, managing our affiliate team (the true backbone to our company), and working on the future of Mastery By Mal.
How did your busines get its start?
My co-founder, Logan, and I are actually dating. Logan was helping some clients grow their social media presence. I started managing Logan’s clients and from there, the business has flourished into Mastery by Mal.
We started as a service business. We would charge a monthly fee, and we realized soon that we were charging a lot of money for something these people could very easily do themselves. The problem with a service business was we were limited to how many clients we could take on. We decided to create a course that would teach the individual + save them a ton of money. We also have no limitations on how many people we can help. In fact, we’re able to help WAY more. Before, we had 30 clients, which was close to the max for the two of us. Now, we have 350 students and we’re growing daily.
What have been some key factors in growing your business?
Affiliate. Marketing. This has been a major component to our growth, as well as setting systems up in place so we can take a step back and worry about the more hands-on things like affiliate management, students, and working towards the future.
What do you use MoonClerk for?
MoonClerk provides us a simple solution to set clients up on payment plans and to accept payments in general. We use it for all of our payment processing needs.
Before MoonClerk, did you use another payment system?
We did use a different system. We didn’t like how they took 1% of our sales + $299… it was soo expensive and not affordable at our size. Also their customer support would take weeks to get back to our emails. They have a wonderful development team that was very helpful, but sales and general inquires were not the greatest. We felt like we didn’t have someone to turn to if we were having issues.
What made you decide to use MoonClerk?
MoonClerk’s customer support is beyond amazing. I’ve contacted them sooo many times on their chat system and I’ve had great help every single time!

It was very easy and they very helpful.
What do you like about MoonClerk?
We love MoonClerk’s customer support, that its design is very clean, and it’s super simple to use and integrate. Additionally, MoonClerk is very affordable for any size business.
How has MoonClerk helped your business?
Without MoonClerk we wouldn’t be able to accept payment plans through Squarespace. Also, the 3rdparty integrations through Zapier have played a major role in helping automate our business. We’ve gone from $1,700 per month in revenue just 5 months ago, to well over $27,000 per month now. Each part of the system deserves credit but MoonClerk really adds a lot of value to our business.
Any advice for others who are in similar industries?
Don’t use any services/solutions unless they have good customer support. Do your research before choosing because it can be a major headache switching from one to another.
