Hagan Walker, cofounder of Vibe LLC, talks to us about how using MoonClerk to accept recurring payments allows his business to forecast sales and lower prices for his customers.

Can you tell us a little about Vibe?

Vibe, LLC makes Glo®, a liquid-activated lighted drink cube. You simply drop Glo into a beverage and it lights up and color cycles. Not only does it look cool, but restaurants and bars buy them since they’re liquid-activated. The light turns off when you finish your drink, allowing a bartender or server to see at-a-glance when someone needs a refill.

What are your day-to-day responsibilities?

I wear many hats – we’re still a small company, so I deal with everything from finance to shipping and logistics and beyond.

How did you get started.

My partner and I started Vibe while we were students at Mississippi State. My partner, Kaylie, had to create a conceptual company for a graphic design class and we always joke that she created a real one. Kaylie roped me in early on (like the 3rd day). She went to show a few prototypes to MSU’s Entrepreneurship Center and all of them failed. I was studying electrical engineering and she roped me in to make Glo liquid-activated. Two years and 600,000 units sold, here we are!

What have been some key factors in your business’s growth?

Bootstrapping. Mississippi isn’t really known for its startup culture, so finding low-cost solutions to issues we face, such as processing recurring payments, is very important.

What do you use MoonClerk for?

We have a few customers who buy Glo on a recurring basis – most are restaurants. It’s easier for them and us to set up a plan upfront and have money come to us and product shipped to our customers effortlessly.

Before MoonClerk, did you use another payment system?

For recurring payments, nope. Typically, I shop around looking for the best solution when adopting something new, but MoonClerk had all of the features that we needed.

It’s very easy. It’s very straightforward. We can create different plans for different customers, set the frequency, and send the link on to them.

We deal with a good mix of large and small businesses. Sometimes dealing with other small businesses that don’t have dedicated accounting departments makes collecting money on a recurring basis very difficult. Accepting recurring payments with MoonClerk makes that easy.
