Brooke Roberts, founder/CEO of Yoga Travel Tree, talks with us about how she gets more business by offering payment plans for her yoga retreats.
Can you tell us a little about Yoga Travel Tree?
We’re the Yelp for yoga. We help travel-loving yogis find and share yoga retreats, yoga teacher trainings, and yoga venues around the world. We also offer a couple of our own adventure-style yoga retreats each year.
What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
Everything. I’m mostly a solopreneur with a few interns from time-to-time. , I basically do it all – from website development, to social media, to partnerships coordination, to customer service.
How did you get started?
For several years, I ran a large website/company in the youth travel industry. I decided to break off and combine two of my loves: travel and yoga. I quit my job…and got to work. 😉
What have been some key factors in your business’s growth?
Engaging with the yoga community on Instagram has been really important. Also, actively reaching out to potential clients is huge. A lot of people think starting and running a business is just a lot of social media and finding an office space. It’s MOSTLY pounding the pavement and making lots of phone calls.
What do you use MoonClerk for?
We currently use MoonClerk to create payment plans for all of our retreats. These are pricier purchases so giving people the option to make a few payments instead of one big lump some is really important. I know many people who wouldn’t book with us if we didn’t offer a payment plan. We’re also moving our directory payments to MoonClerk as well to make it a lot easier on our clients to update their card information.
Before MoonClerk, did you use another payment system?
I used PayPal for payments in the past and it was okay. I had a LOT of issues with failed payments and a confusing system for clients to update their card information. These issues caused a lot of headaches and back-and-forth with clients that I just didn’t have time for – especially as a solopreneur.
What was your experience when switching and getting started with MoonClerk?
It was seamless. MoonClerk was affordable and extremely easy to set up. I created each payment form, grabbed the links, created buttons on my site and… BOOM! – we were up and running.
What do you like about MoonClerk?
MoonClerk has a very easy interface – PayPal was horrible to navigate. MoonClerk also makes it simple to set up payment plans.
Any advice for others who are in similar industries?
If you’re a yoga teacher who is organizing retreats and wants to offer payment plans, I highly recommend MoonClerk.
