Adam Cortez, founder of DKM Coaching, talks with us about how switching to MoonClerk to process 100% of the revenue for his business was one of the biggest factors in the growth of his business.
Can you tell us a little about your business?
DKM is a coaching company that helps business owners stay focused and ditch the stress that comes with being a small business owner or startup. Our goal is to help them sleep better, get their work done, and have a life!
What are your day-to-day responsibilities?
I am the CEO of the company and also a coach to some of our clients. I work with our clients, introduce them to the people they need to know, and reach out to new potential clients. We do have a team of coaches and mentors for our clients as well, but my team knows I like to get my hands dirty.
How did your business get its start?
We started four years ago, not knowing what way was up. When we first started we were a marketing agency for startups, and then “pivoted” to coaching those startups full time. Since then, we have worked with small business, and also, sticking to our mission of promoting education, we are now working with university students to help them stay accountable and learn a thing or two about the business world.
How did you get started with DKM Coaching?
Well, I put it all together on the back of a bar napkin. I was sitting at my local bar with my best friend (biz partner at the time) and we came up with a few ideas. Finally, after a few Jack and Cokes, we decided to pick names and put them on a dartboard. Dark Knight Media was born that night. Since then we have changed to DKM for short and then added another word to make it just right, DKM Global!
What have been some key factors in your growth?
Honestly not to toot MoonClerk’s horn, but making payments as easy as possible made our growth possible. The biggest problem with coaching is clients backing out last minute because of fear to really get their idea going (I think this a problem everywhere) or having things so complicated that clients find a reason to not sign up. MoonClerk made it simple for us to take payments from clients without any hassle.
What do you use MoonClerk for?
MoonClerk is the cornerstone of our business. It makes signing up new clients a breeze and I don’t have to deal with the BS client calls that no one wants to make to make sure they pay.
Before MoonClerk, did you use another payment system?
Hahaha. You will love this – so we used PayPal like everyone else (one of our founders still works at PayPal) but it was a pain to use. We still have it setup, but no one uses it anymore.
It took too long for our money to come through, and it was clunky. Our clients always had problems making payments. Well, maybe that was just their excuse…
WE NEEDED TO GET PAID! It made it way too difficult and, well, we lost a lot of business.
What made you decide to use MoonClerk?
I had a CTO for a while, and he loved MoonClerk and suggested it. After me moaning about leaving PayPal, he just made the change. We will never go back!
What was your experience when switching and getting started with MoonClerk?
I really don’t know. I just blinked and he had it all setup and ready to go. So I think it was simple! Now, it takes me only a few minutes to make changes or create new payment forms if we create a new product. The entire process is just straight forward; it’s simple and it just works!

Well, 100% of our prospects that have signed up with us have paid and made payments through MoonClerk without a problem. I think it just lets us focus on our job and not about client payments all the time.
